Remember Cygnets you can always come along to fly tying and then have a go at fishing after. The waterside assistants are often there after the fly tying to offer advice and help outwith the fishing season.
Currently the cygnets committee are busy working on a programme for the 2012 fishing season. Information about the programme and the coming season will be give at the meeting prior to the start of the fishing season, when Cygnets, parents and guardians are invited to come along.
The Fly Tying shield will be awarded to the "Most Consistent fly dresser" at this meeting and the election will take place for the Cygnets members committee.
The date and time for this meeting will be published at a later date.
We will be looking at progressing the fly casting instruction this coming season with the opportunity for all the Cygnets what ever their ability to learn new techniques and revisit the basics. part of the plan will be for the proficient Cygnets to have the opportunity to learn fly casting from a boat and some spey style casting that can be advantageous in certain fishing situations when there may be a lack of casting space behind them.
I have added a couple of videos of our very own Vice Chairman demonstrating a couple of cast that the Cygnets can learn. (These casts in the video are done on the River Tay using a Double Handed rod, however, the principles of the casts are the same when using a single handed rod)
This video shows Alasdair demonstrating the Double Spey Cast.
This Video shows Alasdair Demonstrating the Snake Roll. When using this cast you can cast extreme distances with little effort.
