2.       Competitions and Outings.   There will be 5 competitions/outings counting towards the Championships this year.   On competition days all fish will count towards the final total.   The A team will fish two on Swanswater, two at Millhall and one at Orchil Loch.  It is hoped that there will be one boat outing and one bank outing at both Millhall and Swanswater but this depends on availability at Millhall.   There will however be two boat outings during the season.
The B team will fish either the Millpond or the Meadow Pond depending on numbers.
Dates for competitions are to be confirmed and you will be informed as soon as possible.

3.       Barbecue.   There are two possible dates for the annual BBQ – Saturday 28 June or Saturday 23 August.   If members could let me know which of these dates suits better, the BBQ will be arranged to suit the majority of members.   We hope to hold a fun competition on the night of the BBQ which may take the form of a pairs or team competition.   Further details nearer the time.

4.       Fund Raising.   Stirling is hosting an International Angling Festival early in August.   On the weekend of 9/10 August the Millpond and Meadow Pond are being used to offer taster sessions for people, particularly youngsters, wishing to try fly fishing for the first time.   A team of coaches will be here and people are being brought in by mini-bus from the main centre of the Festival which is at the new Auction Mart (where Angling Active is).   The Cygnets committee have decided that this offers an ideal chance to raise some money for the club.   It is proposed to hold a Tombola with fishing related and other prizes, and also to have a Cake Stall selling teas, coffees and home baking to visitors to the Fishery.   Volunteers will be needed to man these stalls over the weekend and also donations will be needed for both.    Please think what you can do to help and let me or another committee member know.   The organisers of the Festival are also keen to have Cygnets on hand to let other youngsters know how much enjoyment they get from their fishing so I would be grateful if you can let me know whether you are free over that weekend so I can arrange who can be here.      Again, further details nearer the time.

Sunday 27th April 2014

There were 11 Cygnets at todays session. The weather was dry with sunny spells but a cool breeze persisted for much of the morning. Once the Cygnets were all set up and had drew their platform from the hat they were off fishing.

Swanswater Fishery Hard Fighting Rainbow Trout

The Cygnets were delighted to be joined today by Cygnets Honorary President Mr Paul Young. The Cygnets really enjoy fishing when Paul is giving them encouragement and advice.

The first fish to be taken was a cracking Tiger trout by Robert Fyfe, followed quickly by Louise Dinley and William Addison. Interestingly the Tiger trout were taking at the top end of the Mill pond where at the bottom end Cameron Smith landed a Rainbow.

The fishing conditions were tricky today with a bit of colour in the Mill Pond due to the heavy rain over the previous days, However, the Cygnets persevered and some were rewarded with some good sport. Most of the fish were taken today on either lures or buzzers.

The Successful Cygnets today were:-

Edward McKillop    2 fish and 2 fish returned
Louise Dinley          2 fish
Robert Fyfe              2 fish
William Addison      1 fish
Cameron Smith        1 fish

Following the fishing session some of the Cygnets attended the fly tying class with Cygnets Instructor Jimmy Miller and were shown how to tie a Hot Peach 'n' Orange.

The next Cygnets session is on Sunday 11th May 2014

The weather was blustery and cold with occasional showers.   There were 8 Cygnets at the session.   The fish were mostly down the bottom end of the Millpond (sheltering from the wind).

Cameron Smith 2 fish for 4lb 14oz plus 8 released
Keir Penman, 2 for 5lb

Sunday 30th March 2014

Swanswater Cygnets JAC held their second session of the 2014 season today. It was dull with a cold east wind.

Cygnets were split between both the Mill Pond and Meadow Pond, with the experienced Cygnets fishing the Mill Pond.

Only three fish were caught – Eddie McKillop got two blues for 4lb 1oz, one on an Okey Dokey and the other on a Daddy on the surface, and Angus Robertson got a 2lb Tiger on a Kate McLaren with the help and assistance of Mr Ian Lohoar (Game Angling Coach).

Three of the Cygnets were unable to attend today as they had a Scottish Youth International Team Commitment.

The next Cygnets session is on Sunday 13th April 09:30am
