The Swanswater Cygnets is a club for junior anglers aged 16 and under which was set up in September 2000 and is based at Swanswater Fishery, Stirling. The aim of the club is to promote the arts of fly fishing and fly tying to youngsters. Swanswater Cygnets Barbecue
The Swanswater Cygnets held their annual fishing barbecue this evening. Unfortunately the weather was dull and wet. This did not dampen the cygnets spirits. The Cygnets were divided into 3 teams with team captains William Addison, Abbi Hutton and Robert Fyfe. The teams were chosen by Angus MacDougall, Chairman. Each team had a waterside assistant to help.

The rain was heavy at times but this did not stop the Cygnets. The first fish to be successfully landed was a hard fighting rainbow by Robert Fyfe followed by a superb rainbow caught by Cameron Smith. There were fish showing all around the Mill Pond with the golden trout giving the Cygnets some fun trying to catch them.
The barbecue was held half way through the session with Angus MacDougall and Alasdair Lohoar in charge of the cooking of the beefburgers and sausages.
After the barbecue the Cygnets had fun trying to burst balloons by casting fly lines into hoops. Following this the Cygnets were back onto the Mill Pond to fish for the final part of the session.
The Successful Cygnets were:-
Robert Fyfe 3 Fish (2 retained and 1 returned)
Eddie McKillop 2 Fish
Cameron Smith 1 Fish
The overall team competition was a draw between Abbi Huttons and Robert Fyfes teams with 3 fish each.
It was a great evening despite the rain. It became dry and clear towards the end of the session.

Sunday 19th August 2012
This mornings Cygnets session commenced as usual with fly tying with Jimmy Miller. This morning the Cygnets were shown how to tie a Shipman's buzzzer and then got the chance to tie the fly themselves.
"Shipman's Buzzer"
Following fly tying the Cygnets drew their first peg for the session and started fishing on the Mill Pond. There were 14 Cygnets at the session today.

Cygnets Honorary President Paul Young came along this morning to see the Cygnets and offered advice and encouragement to them. It was fantastic to see Paul and the Cygnets were all delighted to see him.

It was a sunny start to the session and it was very humid throughout the morning. The bright sunshine made the fishing difficult with a lot of fish showing around the pond early on but as the session continued the fish appeared to be deep down.

The first fish of the session was successfully landed by Abbi Hutton. It was a hard fighting Blue trout followed quickly by Robert Fyfe, landing a Blue trout as well.

The Cygnets tried various flies from lures, wet flies, dry flies and buzzers but the trout appeared to be ignoring any fly that was offered to them.

Sunday 5th August 2012
The Cygnets session today started with Thomas Anderson, casting instructor, demonstrating and teaching the Cygnets on how to do the "double haul".
The weather was very humid and the sky looked very dark and grey. It felt very warm throughout the session. There were 10 Cygnets who attended the session this morning. The Cygnets were all fishing the Mill Pond today.
It was very difficult for the Cygnets today. There were fish rising around the Mill Pond, with the golden trout showing around the pond which gave the Cygnets fun, trying to target them.
The fish were very reluctant to take any of the flies offered by the Cygnets. The Cygnets tried dry flies, wet flies, nymphs, lures and buzzers, but the fish showed no interest in anything. Mid morning the first fish of the session was hooked by Eddie McKillop which was a lovely Golden trout. Some of the Cygnets caught a few Perch throughout the morning.
There was a shower of rain late morning which we hoped would help the fishing but unfortunately the fish remained uninterested in the flies being offered.
It was late morning before the second fish of the session was hooked and landed by Robert Fyfe. The fish was a hard fighting Tiger trout and gave Robert a good scrap before it was sucessfully netted by one of Cygnets coaches.
