Sunday 27th May 2012

This mornings Cygnets session commenced with fly tying with Jimmy Miller. Today the Cygnets were shown how to and got to tie a "Bibio Snatcher"

"Bibio Snatcher"

Following fly tying the Cygnets were shown how to set up their fly rods under the expert instruction of Mr John Hood (SANA) Level 3 coach who kindly came along today to help the Cygnets.

The Cygnets who were less experienced were fishing on the Meadow Pond under the instruction from John Hood and Thomas Anderson. The Cygnets who were fishing the Mill Pond, then drew their pegs and headed off to fish.

It was very difficult conditions today with the very high air temperature, which meant the fish were staying deep and were not keen to take flies.

It was a very bright and sunny today with the temperature very high. It was not long before the first fish of the day was hooked and landed by Cameron Smith. The Cygnets sensibly took plenty of breaks and were suitably attired with suncream and long sleeves to protect them from the sun.

The Cygnets were treated to a visit by 2 swans and their 5 Cygnets, which were born last Friday.

Unfortunately due to other commitments, Paul Young was unable to come along today to see the Cygnets but hopes to do so in the near future.

The successful Cygnets today on Mill Pond were:-

Cameron Smith     2 fish
Abbi Hutton          2 fish
Eddie McKillop    2 fish
William Addison  1 fish

Meadow Pond - Mathew Beattie 1 fish

The next Cygnets session will be on Sunday 10th June.  The Cygnets will be shown how to tie knots prior to the fishing by Thomas Anderson.

Reminder to all Cygnets

Cygnets as the weather can be unpredictable at times throughout the year, always remember that you should wear appropriate amounts of clothing and footwear and always be prepared for any adverse weather such as rain. Always bring a waterproof jacket and/or trousers even though the forecast is for dry weather.

Remember also that with the summer approaching that you should be suitably protected with a high factor suncream, you may feel hot and want to remove clothing such as a jumper.
Make sure you have a high factor suncream applied to any areas of exposed skin to prevent any risk of sunburn. When it is hot weather, have regular breaks and have plenty of drinks. It is recommended that you do not wear shorts or t-shirts to prevent any long sun exposure to your skin.
It is recommended that you wear light weight trousers and collared shirts to protect your arms, neck and legs from the sun.
It also important that you know that with the warm/sunny weather that wasps and bees are possibly around. Do not touch these insects or leave cans of juice unattended.

Always wear your baseball cap and eye protection at all times, and Always Look Behind You Before you Cast.

Cygnets Outing

The Cygnets had their first outing of 2012 to Swanswater for the more experienced members and to the Mill Pond for the less experienced.  There was 7 Cygnets fishing on Swanswater and 6 fishing the Mill Pond.  It was a very difficult day for fishing with strong winds and showers throughout the day. The first two hours proved to be hard work for the Cygnets fishing Swanswater, with the wind blowing to gale force at times. In between the strong winds the Cygnets did manage to hook and land fish. Due to the strengthening winds to continuing to gale force, the decision was made to take the Cygnets down to fish the Mill/Meadow Ponds in relation to safety. It proved to be near impossible for some of  the Cygnets to fish thereafter due to the weather conditions.

The successful Cygnets today were:-

Eddie McKillop - 2 fish (1 fish Swanswater and 1 fish pond beside Meadow Pond)
Abbi Hutton - 1 fish (Swanswater)
Cameron Smith - 1 fish (Swanswater)
Robert Fyfe - 1 fish (Swanswater)
William Addison - 1 fish (Swanswater)

Emma Hughes - 1 fish (Mill Pond)
Louise Dinley - 1 fish (Mill Pond)
Alasdair Anderson - 1 fish (Mill Pond)

The next Cygnets session will be on Sunday 27th May commencing as normal at 09:30am with fly tying and 10:00am setting up rods etc with fishing starting at 10:30am.

Our Cygnets Honorary President, Paul Young will be coming along to the next session to see the Cygnets.
